As women, our relationship to porn is predominantly about ourselves –
our sexuality, unencumbered by a partner.
W omen, porn and masturbation. Where to begin? My opinion? The category section.
Porn sites are much like Netflix – you’ve got to scroll through heaps of rubbish (serious scary rubbish at that) before you find what’s right for you and then before you know it you’ve spent more time scrolling than actually watching! Anyway…
Yes that’s right women watch porn.
People don’t talk about it a lot, but it’s true.
Not all women of course – but a lot more that you might imagine.
And not always the cute ‘feminist’ kind with the tinkly music and elaborate storylines. I’m talking about the proper stuff. Low grade smut with dodgy acting skills and screechy sound effects. Sure it’s not exactly high brow and it’s far from an accurate portrayal of our actual sex lives but isn’t that precisely the point?
“In this new world of Headspace and meditation – porn is my me time.”
As expected people will be quick to say “well, she can’t be sexually satisfied if she watches porn” however I’d argue that sex and masturbation play two very separate roles in our sex lives. Both great. But different. As women, our relationship to porn is predominantly about ourselves – our sexuality, unencumbered by a partner.
It’s personal. A way to find out what we like and how we want it.
In this new world of Headspace and meditation – porn’s the new ‘me time’.
Watching porn can also add a new, exciting dimension to sex with a partner – but that’s a whole different story (that we will write about soon!).
Now let’s be clear, everything should be enjoyed in moderation – I’m not suggesting we all sack in our Netflix subscriptions for YouPorn Premium Memberships.
All I am trying to say is – porn exists.
Women enjoy it as well as men.
And that’s ok.
There’s some seriously weird stuff out there, but there’s also some seriously hot stuff.
It’s not for everyone but if it is for you there’s nothing to be ashamed of.
I’m into it and I know lots of other women who are too.
“All I am trying to say is – porn exists. Women enjoy it as
well as men. And that’s ok.”
Sometimes it’s sexy. Sometimes it’s off-putting. Sometimes it makes you want to throw all your electronic devices out the window afterwards disgusted by the sheer sight of all those tabs – and let’s not even discuss those pop-ups.
And sometimes… it leads to mind-blowing orgasms of entirely new levels.
It is what it is – there’s no point overly theorising it.
